Halogen headlights are the best source of light, right? Let's hear from the old driver
2021-10-25 16:46:36

With the development of automobile science and technology, the types of automobile headlights have also been improved, and halogen headlights, xenon headlights, LED headlights, laser headlights have been applied in different models, different types of headlights have their own advantages and disadvantages. So, these kinds of headlights, which is the best headlight source?

Before we discuss this question, let's first introduce these kinds of headlights.

Halogen headlamps

Halogen headlamps can be said to be the most common light source type of headlamps in all kinds of automobiles of major automobile manufacturers at present, and its history can be traced back to the 1970s. Halogen lamps are incandescent lamp is improved and become, add halogen gases is incandescent light bulbs, can add halogen gases make halogen bulbs more durable than incandescent bulbs, because the direction of the halogen bulbs is comprehensive, it belongs to the diffused light source, people come through the use of the reflectors to light, so we usually will halogen lamp as light source, Reflectors that focus the light are called reflective halogen lamps. When we look at cars on the road at night, nine out of ten of the ones whose headlights turn yellow are those with halogen headlights. From the effect, halogen headlamps due to low color temperature, so the light color is warm yellow. In dark conditions, the yellow halogen lamp is not as obvious as the xenon lamp, but it is not a problem for normal use at night. The biggest advantage of halogen lamp lies in its strong penetration ability. In the case of low visibility in fog and heavy rain, the penetration ability of halogen lamp source is far higher than that of other products with high color temperature.

Two, xenon headlights

A xenon lamp uses an electric arc generated by a discharger between two electrodes to produce light, much like a bright arc generated in electric welding. A high-voltage pulse is electrically applied between metal electrodes in a tiny, completely enclosed quartz bulb, which excites the material inside the bulb (xenon gas, a small amount of mercury vapor, metal halides) to ionize in an arc to produce light. This light has a similar color temperature to sunlight, but contains more green and blue components, making it blue-white. The blue-and-white light dramatically increases the brightness of road signs and signs. The light flux emitted by xenon lamp is more than twice that of halogen lamp, and the efficiency of electric energy conversion to light energy is more than 80% higher than that of halogen lamp, so xenon lamp has relatively high energy density and light intensity, while the operating current is only half of halogen lamp.

However, in rain, snow, fog and other weather conditions, the penetration is not as good as halogen lamp, and the circuit is complex, expensive.

Three, LED headlights

LED headlights don't technically have bulbs, but instead use a semiconductor chip, similar to a circuit board, as a light source. Then use a mirror or lens to focus the light for illumination. Leds convert electricity directly into visible light at a relatively high efficiency. Many luxury brands use full LED as the headlight source. But LED light source for heat dissipation and ventilation requirements are also very high, because the heat is relatively large, the general LED headlights have cooling fans behind.

The energy consumption of LED light source is only 1/20 of that of halogen light, and its life span can reach more than 100,000 hours. Basically, it can be driven until it is scrapped. The car light can also be used normally, which is smaller than xenon headlight and can be instantly lit, which is very guaranteed for driving safety.

Four, laser headlights

The laser headlight emitting element is the laser diode, which has many similarities with the LED light emitting diode. The irradiation range can reach up to 600 meters. At present, only Rolls-Royce and Audi use laser headlights in their high-end models. At the same time the disadvantage is also obvious, that is, the cost is too expensive, general models with laser headlights, is really worthy of the name "buy headlights send car"; In addition, laser headlights generally need to be used together with LED headlights, because laser headlights although the irradiation distance is long and bright, but the irradiation range is narrow, need LED headlights to supplement the light.

In general, if your driving area is mainly urban and the light source around you is sufficient at night, then halogen lamps are enough for you to use. In addition, driving on the road will inevitably encounter rain, snow and fog, at this time, the penetrating advantage of halogen headlamps will appear. If you feel that the halogen lamp is not bright enough, you can choose LED headlights. As for the low cost performance of xenon headlights, it is not recommended. Of course, if you do not have bad money, you can try laser headlights.
